The coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on Wednesday, 12 May 1937. It was widely celebrated in New Zealand with commemorative tree plantings, such as this one. At the time, the school was known as Oamaru South School (Cadwallader, B.G., 2023).
