An outstanding feature of Valetta Homestead (Run 58). This stand of Douglas fir covers an area of 245 square metres. The tallest tree is 40.00m high and the largest has a girth of 680cm (see record
CR/0575). The trees were planted by the Hon.
William Campbell Walker CMG. (Buddingh', 1997).
'In few of the Ashburton county homesteads are there so many oregons of more mature growth, and magnificent straight boles and symmetrical shape are to the lover of trees a sight that is "a joy forever". And going through the entrance gates and up the finely shingled drive, flanked on both sides by rare pines and English deciduous trees and intervening shrubs, you know that a beauty lover had planned its magnificence'
