This mature Tasmanian blue gum stands beside Main North Road at the southern entrance to Pegasus. Once part of a rural property, it is now surrounded by residential and commercial development and remains a prominent feature of the local landscape.

Historic aerial photographs show a substantial tree at this location in 1942, with subsequent imagery from 1961, 1963, 1973, 1981 and 2000 documenting its continued presence. The tree was already well established by 1942, suggesting a planting date in the early twentieth century or possibly earlier.

The tree formed part of a former farmstead bordering Taranaki Stream. Planning records describe a farmhouse, orchard, shelterbelts and mature exotic trees on the property, together with the remains of the district's first flour mill.

The surrounding landscape has since undergone substantial change with the development of Pegasus and Ravenswood and associated road infrastructure. The blue gum has remained in its original position and is one of the surviving mature trees associated with the area's former rural landscape (Hammer, J.R, 2026).
