General Notes:
Standing on the corner of Oxford Terrace and Durham Street South within the grounds of the historic St Michael and All Angels Church, this horizontal elm is thought to date from the early 1920s. Its broad horizontal limbs and pendulous branchlets form a characteristic spreading canopy that makes it a prominent feature of the church grounds.

The church site dates from 1851, with the present Gothic Revival church completed in 1872, providing an important heritage setting for the tree. It is protected as a notable tree in the Christchurch District Plan and contributes significantly to the landscape character of this historic site (Hammer, J.R., 2026).
