This mature camperdown elm is prominently located on Hoon Hay Road and is a notable surviving tree within the local landscape. It has a broad spreading canopy and substantial trunk dimensions, reflecting its likely establishment during the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
The tree is believed to be associated with the historic Calder family property on Hoon Hay Road. During the 1880s, the Calder family operated a blacksmithing and horse-shoeing forge in the district, servicing the surrounding farming community. The tree provides a tangible connection to the early development of the Hoon Hay–Spreydon area and contributes to the historic character of Hoon Hay Road (Hammer, J.R., 2026). |
