This is one of two giant sequoias located in Lodge Reserve, formerly known as Sequoia Reserve (see also CR/2229). The land originally formed part of the grounds of Hanmer Springs Lodge, and the trees are believed to have been planted when the lodge was first constructed in 1897.
The main driveway to the lodge entered from the junction of Conical Hill and Jollies Pass Roads and passed through this group of trees, making them a prominent feature of the original approach and of the Hanmer Springs township landscape.
