Tree Information x

Identifier: CR/2223
Tree Type: Single
Registered By: Hammer, J.R.
Registration Category: Notable tree/s – Local interest
General Notes:
Acer griseum (paperbark maple) was recorded at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens in December 1959, representing one of the earliest documented accessions of the species in New Zealand cultivation.

The paperbark maple entered New Zealand’s horticultural trade during the mid- to late-20th century and became a valued specimen tree in gardens, parks, and arboreta. While precise introduction dates are not always documented, nursery catalogues and planting records from the 1950s onward reflect its increasing popularity (Hammer, J.R., 2026).
