Tree Information x

Identifier: CR/2215
Tree Type: Single
Registered By: Hammer, J.R.
Registration Category: Notable tree – National interest
General Notes:
This superb large redwood specimen is in near-perfect condition.

Kinloch Estate has a history dating back to the 1850s, established by Hugh Buchanan, with its prominent homestead potentially built in the late 1880s-90s, before the government purchased the land for subdivision in 1906. The tree is thought to pre-date the house but it is unclear when it was planted. The introduction of the species to New Zealand occurred in 1859 at Mt Peel Station.

The tree retains excellent overall structure, with the only notable feature being a codominant stem near the upper crown (Hammer, J.R., 2026).
