The Oriental plane at Hawke’s Bay Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is a documented “Hippocratic Plane”, raised from seed collected on the island of Kos, Greece and sent to Dr Barrie Tait. Archival correspondence from the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board records that the seedling was brought to Hawke’s Bay in 1973 by Dr Ross Boswell, who was one of the first graduates from the Auckland School of Medicine. The tree was later planted on the hospital grounds in 1974 by Dr Michael Bostock (1922 - 2015), a physician at the hospital from 1963–1987 (Hill, R.N., 2025).
