Ms Georgina Oborne the landowner wonders whether this lone large tōtara was affected by the significant fire in "German Bay, Akaroa" (now known as Takamatua) in December 1860. Or whether the tree grew after the fire. It provides much needed shade for stock (Hammer, J.R., 2025).
