This is likely the very specimen that inspired T.H. Potts to champion Pinus radiata as an ideal species for reforesting New Zealand. Potts was a key figure in introducing and trialling exotic trees such as Monterey pine, and was among the earliest advocates for establishing public forest plantations (Hammer, J.R., 2025).
