Kaituna Valley Scenic Reserve is a public conservation reserve. It sits halfway up Kaituna Valley, and is the only remaining forest on the valley floor. Within this remnant stands this notably large kahikatea, a significant survivor of the forest type that once covered the valley.
The tree is used as an example of "Rounded Buttressess" (fluted roots) on page 66, Fig 24 of 'New Zealand Plants and their Story' by L. Cockayne. 1967 (Hammer, J.R., 2025). |
