This tree was planted by Ian Barton in 1962. He was the Chief Forester for the Auckland City Council Bulk Water Department (later to become the Auckland Regional Authority) from 1961 to 1986. The tree is located on the front boundary of private property. The house was originally built in 1877 as the Hunua School headmaster's house, before becoming a forester's house and is now privately owned (Barton, S. G., 2025).
